The Château de Miramont sits on elevated ground with a central section flanked by two symmetrical wings, each ending in a roofed pavilion. The structure spans four levels with interconnected spaces and distinctive architectural design throughout.
The château was built between the late 1600s and early 1700s for Gabrielle Caubotte de Miramont, replacing an earlier defensive structure on the same site. This transition marked a shift from military fortress to residential manor.
The poet Cyprien Despourrins made his home here from 1729 to 1759, leaving marks of his literary work throughout the rooms. His presence shaped the region's intellectual life during that era.
The château opens to visitors during European Heritage Days, giving access to explore its interior spaces and layout. Plan to spend time moving through each level to appreciate the building's organization.
Inside the manor is a striking two-story library created by journalist Jacques Chancel, housing an impressive private collection. This space became the site of a notable political meeting in 2004.
