Le Mont de l'Herba, Mountain summit in the Jura, Doubs, France

Le Mont de l'Herba is a summit of the Jura range in the Doubs department, rising to 1,223 m above Les Hôpitaux-Vieux and the Vallée de Joux. Its upper slopes are open pasture on limestone, with a triangulation stone at the top and views over the forested ridges toward Switzerland.

Le Mont de l'Herba lies in the Vallée de Joux area of the Doubs, close to the Swiss border near Les Hôpitaux-Vieux. The summit's triangular stone marker belongs to the French geodetic network, which fixed the peak's coordinates for mapping. The surrounding pastures were grazed by herds from farms in the valley, and the border ridge above the summit was surveyed and marked over the centuries.

Herders have long used the meadows around the summit for grazing livestock, shaping the open grasslands that define the landscape today. Visitors can still see evidence of this pastoral tradition in the cleared pastures and simple mountain shelters scattered across the slopes.

The climb is accessible via marked hiking trails that are well-signed with varying difficulty levels for different visitors. Wear sturdy footwear and check weather conditions before you go, as mountain weather can change rapidly.

The summit lies on the Franco-Swiss border, and the ridge here marks the line between the Doubs department and the Swiss canton of Vaud. Walkers crossing the pasture can pass between the two countries without any formal crossing point, a detail easy to miss on the open grass.
