Coni'Fer, Heritage railway and railway museum in Doubs, France and canton Vaud, Switzerland.
Coni'Fer is a railway museum and heritage train service that operates on an 8-kilometer mountain route connecting Pontarlier in France with Vallorbe in Switzerland. The line crosses through scenic terrain and links both countries via the Jura mountain range.
The line was dormant for many years and was revived in 1993 as a tourist project, following the end of regular service in 1969. This restoration gave new life to one of the historic mountain railway connections between France and Switzerland.
The collection displays restored train cars from different eras, including a carriage from the legendary Simplon-Orient-Express. Visitors can learn how this historic service once carried travelers across Europe.
Trains run from June through September, plus school holiday periods, departing from Les Hôpitaux-Neufs station. Wear comfortable clothing and bring weather protection, as the route travels through mountain terrain.
The collection includes a 1915 Tigerli steam locomotive and the BR 52-8163-9 engine, both capable of reaching around 80 kilometers per hour (50 miles per hour). These rare machines give visitors a close-up experience of the steam locomotive era.
