Manor d'Eyrignac, Manor house with Italian Renaissance gardens in Salignac-Eyvigues, France

Manor d'Eyrignac is a country house surrounded by gardens composed of geometric shapes cut from yew, boxwood, hornbeam, and cypress trees. The plantings follow strict patterns and create a series of outdoor rooms that connect to one another.

The manor house dates from the 17th century, though its gardens arrived in the 18th century. These were redesigned in the English style during the 19th century before returning to French design in the 1960s.

The garden is maintained by a small team of skilled gardeners who apply the same techniques year after year to keep the hedges shaped. This work shows how French garden design stays alive through patient, repeated craftsmanship.

The paths through the gardens are well kept and easy to walk, with shade from tall hedges welcome during warmer months. Comfortable shoes are advised since you spend much time on foot and the grounds can be crowded on certain days.

Natural springs near the grounds supply water to the gardens, allowing these landscapes to endure across hundreds of years. The family that owns the property has guarded and maintained it across more than five generations.
