Château de Cipières, Medieval castle in Saint-Crépin-et-Carlucet, France.
Château de Cipières is a castle in Saint-Crépin-et-Carlucet with a rectangular structure, a polygonal staircase tower, and a square tower, all covered by a heavy stone roof. The building displays the solid construction typical of French fortified dwellings with functional tower designs.
The castle was built in the 16th century under Guilhem de Ferrières as a fortified residence of that period. The property later passed to the Bénié de Lacypierre family, who held it for generations.
The castle houses an extensive collection of pottery and animal bronzes from the 18th century that reflect the sophistication of French decorative arts of that era. These works are displayed throughout the rooms and showcase the taste in art that earlier residents cultivated.
The castle is open to visitors during afternoons from spring through fall, allowing time to explore its rooms and structures at a comfortable pace. Guided tours provide access to different areas of the building and can be arranged during those visiting periods.
Director Ridley Scott selected this castle as a filming location for his debut film, making it a significant location in cinema history. The halls have remained largely unchanged since that production was filmed there.
