Croix de Coste

Croix de Coste is a mountain peak in the Beaufortain Massif located at 1816 meters between the municipalities of Queige and Villard-sur-Doron in the Savoie department. The summit cross marks the highest point and overlooks the surrounding Alpine terrain.

The paths to Croix de Coste are part of traditional routes that Beaufortain shepherds have used for generations during seasonal livestock migrations through the mountains. These ancient trails continue to shape the main approach to the summit today.

The summit cross follows a widespread Alpine tradition deeply rooted in French mountain culture. These markers are found at many peaks across the region and reflect local spiritual and cultural customs.

The main trail to Croix de Coste starts from Route du Villaret in Queige and covers about 10 kilometers with approximately 1356 meters of elevation gain. Hikers should wear sturdy footwear and allow plenty of time for the physical demands of the climb.

From Croix de Coste, visitors can gaze toward three distinct mountain massifs at once: the Bauges, Beaufortain, and Mont-Blanc ranges all lie visible from this vantage point. This special geographic position makes it a preferred observation spot.
