Lagodekhi

Lagodekhi sits at 450 meters elevation at the base of the Greater Caucasus mountains, positioned between the Lagodekhiskhevi and Shromiskhevi rivers, three kilometers from the Azerbaijan border.

Founded in the 8th century as Lakuasti by order of Eristavi Archil I to build a fortress, the settlement officially received city status in 1962.

The local museum, established in 1975, houses 3,668 objects ranging from archaeological artifacts of the 4th millennium BC to items from the late Middle Ages.

The town is accessible from Tbilisi via the Tbilisi-Bakurtsikhe-Lagodekhi road in approximately 2 hours and 15 minutes, with a nearby border checkpoint for Azerbaijan.

Lagodekhi features sulfur mineral waters with therapeutic properties that have been historically used for health treatments and wellness purposes throughout the centuries.
