History
The complex began in the 7th century and underwent major expansion during the 12th to 14th centuries. Additional structures were added in later centuries, creating a layered development across multiple periods.

The interior of the Church of the Assumption contains wall paintings from multiple time periods, with the oldest fragments dating to the 12th century.

Access to the complex requires crossing a medieval stone bridge over the Tedzami River. The site sits on a mountain slope, so comfortable footwear and some physical preparation for climbing are advisable.
