Shoreti monastery

The monastery complex contains a two-nave basilican church, bell tower, scriptorium, fortress, small chapel and multiple rock-cut cells in the mountainous terrain.

The construction of the primary structures occurred between the 6th and 15th centuries, with major reconstruction efforts completed in 2018 to stabilize the buildings.

The monastery walls feature a rare Byzantine mosaic of the Mother of God and medieval inscriptions commemorating notable figures like chief mason Nikoloz.

Located 6 kilometers northeast of Ota village, the monastery is accessible through an off-road trail or hiking path through the Aspindzis-Khevi rocky ravine.

The monastery complex includes a fortress positioned above the main structures, offering extensive views across the surrounding pine forest of Tetrobi Managed Reserve.
