Bateti Lake, Mountain lake in Shida Kartli, Georgia.
Bateti Lake is a mountain lake situated in Shida Kartli at an elevation of around 1300 meters in the Dzama River valley. The body of water covers a small area and reaches a maximum depth of approximately twelve meters.
Bateti Lake formed when a major landslide in the Dzama River valley created a natural barrier that trapped water. This geological event shaped the water body that exists in the landscape today.
The lake and surrounding area hold several medieval religious sites, including churches and monasteries that reflect Georgian building traditions. These sacred places shape the landscape and tell stories of the region's spiritual past.
Reaching the lake requires walking about three kilometers on an unpaved path from the nearest road. During wet weather, traveling with an off-road vehicle is advisable to handle muddy conditions.
The lake provides a habitat for the banded newt, a rare species from the Georgian Red Book. This small population makes the site an important location for nature conservation efforts in the region.
