Narsarsuaq, Airport village in Kujalleq, Greenland

Narsarsuaq is a village in Kujalleq that functions as the main entry point to South Greenland, nestled among fjords and mountains. The settlement sits at about 34 meters elevation and is defined by its international airport, which connects the region to the outside world.

The village arose during World War II when the United States established a military base, transforming the location into a strategic transport hub. This military foundation set the stage for its later growth as a central transportation center for South Greenland.

The settlement carries forward Inuit traditions that are woven into daily life here. You can see this in how people live with the rhythms and resources of the Arctic landscape.

The place is reached by regular flights from Copenhagen, Iceland, and the Faroe Islands, with accommodation available and access to nearby hiking trails. Once here, take time to explore the local walking routes, which are easy to reach and depart from this spot.

Visitors can walk through Flower Valley to reach viewpoints overlooking the inland ice sheet, where you see the line between untamed Arctic land and human settlement. This route offers a stark contrast between wild natural space and the marks of people living here.
