Georgia State Silk Museum

The Georgia State Silk Museum is a museum in Tbilisi dedicated to silk production, housing thousands of objects collected from around the world. The displays include cocoons, information about silkworm biology, and historic textile samples that document this craft's development.

A natural scientist named Nikolai Shavrov founded this institution in 1887 as part of a regional sericulture research center in the Caucasus. Polish architect Alexander Shimkevich designed the building that continues to house the collection today.

The museum shows how silk was made and used in this region, with a focus on traditional techniques and patterns visible in the displays. Visitors can understand what role silk production played in local people's lives.
