Wesley Methodist Cathedral, Methodist cathedral in Accra, Ghana.
The Wesley Methodist Cathedral features colonial-era architecture with traditional stained glass windows, wooden pews, and a spacious nave designed to accommodate large congregations during religious services and special community celebrations.
Construction began in 1922 under architect W.F. Hedges, with the foundation stone laid by Governor Frederick Gordon Guggisberg, and the building was completed and dedicated in 1960 before gaining cathedral status in 2000.
The cathedral serves as a community hub hosting annual celebrations, choir performances, and processions while playing a central role in Methodist activities and regional ecclesiastical governance throughout Ghana.
Located on Asafoatse Nettey Road in the Jamestown district, the cathedral holds Sunday morning services and offers guided tours upon request with basic facilities including parking for visitors and worshippers.
The building represents nearly a century of continuous Methodist worship in Ghana, surviving periods of social upheaval while maintaining its original architectural features and serving as the seat of the Presiding Bishop of Ghana.
