Derveni, Coastal village in Xylokastro-Evrostina Municipality, Greece
Derveni is a coastal village in Xylokastro-Evrostina Municipality that stretches along the Corinthian Gulf. Houses sit between the shoreline and the old national road.
The settlement began in the early 19th century when people from Zacholi village moved here to establish a community. This new settlement focused on exporting and processing grapes.
The name comes from Ottoman Turkish, meaning a narrow passage, and reflects how the village sits wedged between mountains and the sea.
The village connects easily to Athens and Patras by rail, making it accessible for day trips. The beach holds Blue Flag status, indicating it meets high environmental standards.
Coastal erosion from a severe storm struck the northern shores in 2012 and left visible damage. Several buildings were affected and the event left lasting marks on the landscape.
