Koufalia, Administrative center in Central Macedonia, Greece
Koufalia is a municipal unit in the Chalkidona region near Thessaloniki. The area comprises several villages and settlements spread across agricultural land and low hills in northern Greece.
After World War One, displaced people from Bulgaria relocated to this area and established new settlements. The reorganization of local administration shaped the region into its current municipal form.
The cultural organization Megas Alexandros, established in 1980, maintains local traditions through various community events and activities throughout the year.
The area lies northwest of Thessaloniki and connects to major regional roads. Visitors should know the region is quite rural, so exploring it works best with your own transportation.
The town operates its own lending library and blood bank, while hosting the River Party celebration near Axios river from July 24 to July 26.
