Alistratis cave

Alistratis cave is a show cave in Greece featuring vast underground chambers with naturally formed mineral deposits. The cave system displays stalactites, stalagmites, and other geological formations that developed over thousands of years.

The cave was officially documented in 1975 and immediately explored by Greek and Austrian specialists. These initial investigations established the foundation for understanding this underground system.

Visitors can walk through marked paths that lead through the chambers and passages. The routes are well maintained, but bring sturdy footwear and a light jacket since the underground temperature stays cool year-round.

The cave is home to a rare insect species called Alistratia beroni that exists nowhere else in the world. This unique creature exemplifies how specialized life forms evolve in isolated underground environments.
