Haapajärvi is a small town in North Ostrobothnia with around 7,000 residents, surrounded by lakes and forests with quiet streets and simple houses. The town has basic services including shops, schools, a library with exhibitions, and a cultural theater where local performances take place.
Haapajärvi was first recorded in 1548 as Hapaierffue and became its own parish in 1838. Early settlers arrived from Savonia and brought traditions that continue to influence the local culture today.
