Kuokkala Bridge, Steel beam road bridge in Jyväskylä, Finland.
Kuokkala Bridge is a steel beam road crossing that spans Lake Jyväsjärvi, connecting the city center through Lutakko to the Kuokkala district. The structure stretches across the water on sturdy steel supports and carries both vehicle and foot traffic between the two sides.
Construction started in October 1987 with work crews building from both shores simultaneously until they met in the middle in September 1988. The project represented an important connection linking separate parts of the city across the water.
At the Lutakko end of the crossing, a steel sculpture named Keinuja by artist Seppo Uuranmäki sits installed since 2002, bringing artistic character to the passage. The artwork serves as a natural gathering point for people moving between the city center and the residential district on the other side.
The crossing is open to both vehicle and foot traffic with space designed for each user group. Access is available year-round, making it a reliable route between the northern and southern parts of the city.
The construction teams building from opposite shores met exactly in the middle of the lake, a precision engineering achievement that unified the city. This meeting point moment became a memorable milestone in the local construction history.
