Vesilahti, municipality in the region of Pirkanmaa in Finland
Vesilahti is a small municipality in southwestern Finland, located about 30 kilometers from Tampere. The region consists of forests, farmland, and numerous lakes including Lake Pyhäjärvi, which features shallow bays and fishing grounds.
People have inhabited the region for around 8,000 years after the Ice Age, as archaeological evidence shows. By the 17th century, the area grew with farms and estates such as Laukko Manor, while the church built in 1802 became another important landmark.
Vesilahti preserves rya weaving traditions, where people made knotted rugs for special occasions like weddings. The Narvan Market, held every five years, brings the community together with crafts, food, music, and traditional dances.
The area is easily accessible by car, with bus connections to nearby towns and Tampere. New cycling and walking paths are being developed to improve mobility throughout the region.
Vesilahti is home to Kurki Ecovillage, a community practicing sustainable farming and permaculture near Lake Pyhäjärvi. The settlement hosts the Nordic Permaculture Festival, where visitors learn about low-impact land management and ecological practices.
