HAM Helsinki Art Museum

HAM Helsinki Art Museum is an art museum located in the Tennispalatsi building and houses around 10,000 works by Finnish and international artists, including paintings, sculptures, and installations. The collections span the second and third floors and offer views of different artistic styles and periods.

The museum was founded in 1974 and grew from a municipal gallery into a central institution managing Helsinki's expanding public art collection. Over time it took on a larger role in selecting and placing artworks throughout the city.

The building hosts works by artists who shaped Helsinki's art scene, including Tove Jansson's wall paintings originally created for City Hall. These pieces show how the city values its artistic traditions and integrates them into everyday life.

The museum is located on the second and third floors of Tennis Palace and offers free entry for visitors under 18, with a shop on the ground level. Its central position in the building makes it easy to navigate and explore.

The institution oversees art installations scattered across Helsinki, with nearly half of its collection displayed outside these walls in parks, streets, and public institutions. This blurs the line between a museum and the city itself.
