Myllysilta, Steel girder bridge in Turku, Finland
Myllysilta is a steel girder bridge that crosses the Aurajoki river and connects Turku's districts IV and VII. It features four traffic lanes and a separate pedestrian path spanning 93 meters.
A concrete structure from 1975 stood at this location and suffered structural damage that led to its closure in 2010. Today's steel construction replaced the demolished predecessor.
The bridge links different sections of Turku's riverside zone, where restaurants and shops shape daily life. People use this connection regularly to move between districts and explore the river's banks.
The bridge operates with one-way traffic flowing from east to west, while the nearby Martinsilta bridge handles traffic in the opposite direction. Both enable smooth transitions between districts.
The metal surfaces are treated with an invisible protective layer that prevents graffiti from adhering. This coating allows for simple cleaning with ethanol.
