Jukupark, Water park in Hiekkasärkät, Finland
Jukupark is a water park on the sandy beach of Hiekkasärkät in Kalajoki, Finland, with swimming pools, waterslides of different sizes, and a play area for younger children. The same grounds also hold an adventure golf course with a maritime theme.
The park grew out of a basic beach facility at Hiekkasärkät, a coastal area that has drawn Finnish holidaymakers for generations. New attractions were added over the years, with the adventure golf course opening in 2020.
Hiekkasärkät beach has long been one of the most popular summer destinations for Finnish families, and the park fits naturally into that tradition. Going there is a shared seasonal ritual for many people from the surrounding region who return year after year.
The park is only open during the summer season, so warm and sunny days are the best time to go. There are food stands and barbecue areas on site, making it easy to spend a full day without leaving the grounds.
Even though Kalajoki is in northern Finland, Hiekkasärkät is known for having some of the warmest sandy beaches in the country, which makes the park feel more like a southern resort than a northern one. The beach stretches for several kilometers right next to the park, so visitors can move freely between the two.
