Stabroek Market

Stabroek Market is a market hall in Georgetown featuring a striking cast-iron structure crowned by a prominent clock tower. The building spans approximately 80,000 square feet and contains numerous stalls arranged to accommodate merchants and shoppers moving through the space.

The site traces back to 1792 when people gathered there under Dutch rule. The current building was constructed in 1880 and has defined the area ever since.

The market stalls display local textiles, fresh produce, spices, and crafts from the region's different communities. You can observe people from various backgrounds gathering here each day to buy and sell their goods.

The building's steel framework was manufactured by the Edge Moor Iron Company of Delaware and assembled on site. This late 19th-century engineering achievement shows the craftsmanship of that era.
