Vrhovac, Rural settlement in Ozalj, Croatia
Vrhovac is a rural settlement located between the slopes of the Žumberak Mountains and the Kupa River valley in Karlovac County. The village consists of around 300 residents spread across approximately 100 family households on hilly terrain.
The settlement was controlled by various Croatian noble families for several centuries before coming under the administration of Ozalj in 1671. This shift marked an important change in how the local area was governed.
The village has maintained its connection to the land through generations, with residents cultivating grapes and fruit trees on the sloping terrain that define the area today. This way of life shapes how people use the landscape and gives the settlement its rural character.
The village is easily accessible from the nearby town of Ozalj via direct road connections that make it simple to reach. Visitors should expect rural conditions, as this is a small area primarily made up of residential homes and farmland.
The scholar Đuro Körbler, who specialized in ancient languages, was born in this village and later contributed his research to the Croatian Academy of Sciences. His academic work in classical philology became part of Croatia's intellectual heritage.
