Veli Lošinj

Veli Lošinj is a coastal settlement positioned around a natural harbor with houses spreading from waterfront to higher ground. Colorful buildings cluster along the shoreline, while Mediterranean plants grow across the surrounding slopes.

This settlement began as a fishing village in the 13th century and grew into a maritime center over time. Ship captains from across the region built their homes here, establishing it as a place of seafaring wealth and activity.

The Church of Saint Anthony displays Venetian artwork that reflects the town's maritime past and spiritual heritage. The waterfront remains a gathering place where locals and visitors experience the rhythm of harbor life.

Access to the town is by ferry from the mainland, with accommodation ranging from simple guesthouses to larger hotels. Late spring and early autumn offer the most comfortable visit as temperatures are mild and crowds are smaller.

The town received official health resort status in 1885, triggering construction of grand villas and establishment of wellness facilities. This period of growth left a distinctive mark on the town's character that visitors can still observe today.
