Stara Novalja, Coastal settlement in Lika-Senj County, Croatia
Stara Novalja is a small coastal settlement on the northeast side of Pag Island, situated along a sheltered cove with a natural harbor. The village has a compact size and benefits from its location within a protected inlet that naturally suits boat traffic.
The area was settled in ancient times, as shown by archaeological finds of walls and a burial ground. Remains of an early church also indicate religious use during the pre-Romanesque period.
The village celebrates Saints Peter and Paul on June 29 with local festivities that bring together residents and visitors.
Boats and yachts can dock at a pier in front of the village or at a deeper harbor nearby where larger vessels can anchor safely. Both options offer different conditions for various types of watercraft.
The cove forms part of a submerged valley and reaches unusual depths in certain spots, making it an intriguing destination for divers. This underwater geography creates exceptional conditions in what would otherwise be a shallow coastal area.
