Barbat na Rabu, Coastal settlement in Rab, Croatia.
Barbat na Rabu is a coastal settlement on the southeastern shore of Rab island, stretching along protected coves and inlets. Traditional stone buildings with terracotta roofs sit above small natural harbors where fishing boats dock.
The settlement traces its roots to Roman times when the area served as a strategic port for Mediterranean trade routes. Over the centuries it evolved into a fishing village while maintaining much of its original layout and character.
Fishing shapes daily life here, with small boats and nets visible around the harbor throughout the year. The connection to the sea remains woven into how people work and spend their time in this settlement.
The settlement is accessible via ferry from the mainland port of Stinica to Misnjak, followed by a short drive to reach the village. Once there, the coves and harbor areas are easily explored on foot or by local transport.
The numerous small coves here are naturally sheltered from strong winds by surrounding limestone formations that rise directly from the water. These same rocky features create protected swimming spots that visitors often discover on their own.
