Kampor, Settlement and memorial complex on Rab Island, Croatia.
Kampor sits between Eufemija and Kampor coves on the western side of Rab Island, with houses scattered along Mount Vrsi slopes and the shoreline. The settlement provides access to Veli Mel, a long sand beach for swimming, and features numerous accommodations and restaurants specializing in fresh fish.
The settlement traces back to Greek origins, as evidenced by remains of an ancient settlement on the Kastelina promontory with mosaic fragments and archaeological traces. This ancient presence shaped the island coast's development over centuries.
The monastery complex of Saint Euphemia shapes the settlement with two churches that house a museum displaying sacred music, religious objects, and archaeological finds. This collection reflects the spiritual and historical importance of the location to the region.
The best time to visit is between May and September when the weather is warm and beaches are accessible. Parking is available locally, and the flat sand beach at Veli Mel is very welcoming for visitors of different ages.
The memorial complex was designed by architect Edvard Ravnikar and features a 12-meter obelisk alongside a cemetery for internees. The graves are arranged in terraced form with stone walls, creating a striking tribute.
