Old City Hall, Neoclassical city hall in Gornji Grad, Croatia.
Old City Hall in Gornji Grad is a complex of three connected buildings with symmetrical facades and classical porticoes featuring large columns. The structure displays typical features of 19th-century municipal architecture with generous window arrangements and ornamental stonework details.
The original structure dates from the 15th century and was transformed into an administrative complex in 1787. This renovation established it as a center for municipal governance and judicial functions.
The building served as a venue for important city events and performances that shaped Zagreb's cultural life. It remains a focal point in the historic district and reflects the role of public buildings in community gatherings.
The ground floor houses an art gallery open to visitors, while upper levels serve administrative functions. Be aware that some areas may not be publicly accessible since the building remains an active municipal facility.
Nikola Tesla delivered a lecture here in 1892 about powering street lights with hydroelectric energy. This moment reveals the building's role as a venue for cutting-edge scientific ideas of that era.
