Barbariga is a small coastal settlement in Peroj, Croatia, set on flat land that stretches into the sea near Punta Cissana. It has a handful of houses, a small shopping area, a few places to eat, and a gentle shoreline with boat docks.
The area was linked to the ancient settlement of Cissa, which according to local story sank into the sea around the 8th century. Ruins from later periods, including Roman villas and early Christian remains, show how people lived and worked near this coastline long before the present village.
The name Barbariga comes from the noble Venetian family Barbarigo, and old stone walls and buildings still carry that link. Along the waterfront, small restaurants serve fresh fish through the year, while fishing and olive growing shape daily routines.
The flat terrain makes walking along the coast easy, and the calm bay is suitable for swimming and small boats. A road connects the settlement to larger towns, so a short drive can bring you here for a slower seaside stop.
A large resort with a golf course designed by Jack Nicklaus, a marina and many homes was planned around 2006 but never built. Today the land remains mostly open and quiet, so visitors can still see the flat coast without that large development.
