Mala scena is a children's theatre in the Medveščak neighbourhood of Zagreb, housed in adapted premises of the former local community council. It stages about 500 performances a year for over 65,000 spectators, with a repertoire that includes Ana i Mija and Debela, the latter performed for more than a decade.
The venue was founded in 1989 by a group of actors who wanted to create a new stage for young audiences. Since then, it has grown into an established cultural space in Zagreb.
The theatre's name, Mala scena, means "small stage" in Croatian. Its shows have been performed in English, German, Italian and Chinese, and some productions introduce children to theatre itself, with themes such as a friendship between a man and a musical instrument or the problems children face at school.
The theater is located in the city and easily accessible for visitors coming with families or school groups. It is advisable to check the schedule in advance and register early, especially when larger groups are visiting.
