Zagreb City Museum

The Zagreb City Museum sits in a restored building complex in the old town and presents the city's history through thousands of objects from different times. The rooms guide you through eras filled with everyday items, artworks, and documents that tell the story of life here.

The building itself dates from the 17th century and was originally a convent, later transformed into a museum to preserve the city's story. The collection grew over more than a century and shows how the city developed from early times to the present day.

The name reflects the city itself, and the rooms show how Zagreb lived and changed through the centuries. You see how people in different times furnished their homes, what crafts existed, and how the city grew.

The museum sits in the old town up on the hill, so wear comfortable shoes and expect some stairs as you move through it. The rooms are well lit and fairly easy to navigate, even though there is much to see.

Beneath the museum floor lie remains from very ancient times that were found during excavations and are now part of the exhibition. These archaeological finds show that people lived here long before modern Zagreb existed.
