Ilok–Bačka Palanka Bridge, International road bridge between Ilok, Croatia and Bačka Palanka, Serbia
This road bridge spans the Danube River for 825 meters, linking the eastern Croatian town with a northern Serbian city. The structure connects route D2 on the Croatian side to Serbian road M18, creating a continuous transportation corridor.
The bridge opened in 1974 as a link between the former Yugoslav republics. It sustained damage during NATO bombing in 1999 but underwent extensive repairs and reopened in 2002.
This crossing unites two communities that were once separated by the river, and it remains a vital meeting point for Croats and Serbs today. Families and neighbors use it regularly to maintain connections across the border.
The bridge carries regular traffic from both road networks and is an important freight route. Travelers should expect border control procedures that can take time, especially during peak travel periods.
A pedestrian and cycling path runs alongside the bridge, offering a slower route toward the nearby village. This alternative crossing allows visitors to explore the surroundings at a more relaxed pace away from vehicle traffic.
