Smrdan grad, Stone fortress in Slivno, Croatia
The fortress stands at 220 meters above sea level with two towers, one circular and one square-shaped, constructed entirely from local stone materials.
Built during the 17th century, this military fortification provided strategic control over the Mediterranean Sea coast and the Neretva Valley trade routes.
The fortress receives many local pilgrims each year on August 15th during the Assumption Day celebration, when people walk from Klek to the site.
Visitors can access the fortress through a marked trail from Komarna, following the main road toward Metkovic for 10 kilometers until reaching the Slivno turnoff.
The site contains architectural elements from both medieval and 17th-century periods, displaying different construction techniques within the same fortification complex.
