Church of Saint Parascheva, Baroque Orthodox church in Slabinja, Croatia
The Church of Saint Parascheva is a baroque building in Slabinja village, featuring architectural details typical of the baroque period in its walls and overall form. The structure sits on the south side of the D47 road near the Una River.
The building was completed in 1828 following architect R. Battigelli's design from 1819. During the Second World War, the church suffered severe damage, with only the outer walls surviving the destruction.
The church honors Saint Parascheva, a revered holy figure venerated across the Balkans. The Orthodox tradition visible here reflects the religious heritage of the region and its communities.
The church is located in a rural area and is best reached by car, being situated near the D47 road. Visitors should know that the building is currently in an incomplete state and can only be viewed from the outside.
Reconstruction efforts began in the 1970s following wartime destruction, but the roof was never finished and the building has remained abandoned since then. This unfinished structure stands as a visible reminder of conflict and the incomplete repairs that followed.
