Krvavica

The Krvavica sanatorium is a distinctive building with a circular layout right on the coast, featuring curved walls, large windows, and multiple levels. The spaces are organized by function - treatment areas, bedrooms, and common rooms follow the natural light circulation.

In the 1960s this children's health center was founded to serve young patients in a modern setting. Architect Rikard Marasović designed the building using new design principles that linked functionality with healing.

The building shows how society wanted to provide health care for everyone after the war by creating modern facilities for children. The circular shape allowed different areas to be separated while still creating a connected community.

The location sits on the Adriatic coast and is relatively open to viewing, with the original architectural features still visible. Visitors should note it is a protected monument and some areas may be restricted.

The circular shape was deliberately chosen to provide each room with enough daylight and support recovery. This type of floor plan was a thoughtful solution for patient care in medical architecture of that era.
