This protected marine zone runs along the northern coast between Cape Pusta and Cape Stoba near the Mljet Channel and features rocky shores alongside sheltered bays. The waters contain extensive underwater meadows of seagrass that provide habitat for numerous marine creatures.

The site gained protection status in 2013 when it joined the European Union's Natura 2000 network as a recognized conservation area. This designation reflected growing awareness of the marine ecosystems' importance to the broader region.

The waters here are part of fishing communities' daily practice, with locals maintaining knowledge passed down through families about where and when to fish.

The easiest way to explore this area is by joining boat tours from nearby coastal towns where operators offer regular excursions. Water clarity and calm conditions are best during warmer months, making visits more comfortable.

The area shelters underwater meadows of Posidonia oceanica, a rare seagrass that happens to be the ocean's largest carbon storage system. These submarine plants are found in only a few places globally, making these waters especially valued by conservationists.
