Andrássy Castle, Romantic château in Tiszadob, Hungary.
Andrássy Castle is a romantic residence in Tiszadob built with symbolic architectural numbers: four entrances representing seasons, twelve towers for months, fifty-two rooms for weeks, and 365 windows for days of the year. The design reflects an intentional mathematical harmony embedded throughout the structure.
The residence was commissioned in 1880 by Count Gyula Andrássy, who served as Foreign Minister of Austria-Hungary and Hungarian Prime Minister. Architect Arthur Meinig designed the building according to his patron's vision.
The castle hosts an annual piano festival where musicians from Hungary and around the world perform classical works. The event takes place during August celebrations and has become an important part of the region's cultural life.
The residence is open Tuesday through Sunday, with visiting hours varying by season. Plan ahead and confirm the schedule before your visit to make the most of your time there.
The stucco ceiling in the ground floor L-shaped salon reproduces the decorative design found in the Cartoon Gallery at Knole House in Kent, England. This detail shows the artistic refinement chosen for the interior decoration.
