Tiszadobi Pontonhíd, Pontoon bridge in Tiszadob, Hungary.
The Tiszadobi Pontonhid is a pontoon bridge crossing the Tisza River in Tiszadob, connecting both banks with a roadway approximately 2.7 meters wide. The structure spans roughly 169 meters and allows vehicles to cross the river at this location.
The bridge was originally constructed in 1942 but was destroyed by German forces in 1944 during World War II. It was restored in 1949 and then rebuilt into its current form in 1986.
The bridge supports the daily interactions between communities on both sides of the Tisza River, enabling local traditions and social connections to flourish.
Crossing is controlled by a traffic light system and vehicles must travel at a maximum speed of 5 kilometers per hour. A safety distance of about 100 meters between vehicles is required to maintain the stability of the floating structure.
When larger vessels need to pass through the river, a middle segment of about 49 meters can be detached and moved aside. This system allows river traffic to pass without significantly interrupting road traffic.
