Tiszadobi Pontonhíd, Pontoon bridge in Tiszadob, Hungary.
The Tiszadobi Pontonhíd is a pontoon bridge over the Tisza River in Tiszadob, Hungary, linking the two banks of the river. The bridge sits directly on floating pontoons and runs 169 meters from one shore to the other.
The bridge was first built in 1942 and destroyed by German forces in 1944 during the Second World War. It was restored after the war in 1949 and later rebuilt in its current form in 1986.
The bridge connects two villages separated by the river and is part of everyday life for people in the area. Crossing it gives a clear view of the flat Hungarian plains stretching out on both sides of the Tisza.
Crossing is managed by a traffic light system and vehicles must move very slowly to keep the floating structure stable. It is worth checking local conditions before visiting, as high water or strong winds can affect access.
A middle section of about 49 meters can be detached and moved aside to let larger vessels pass through the river. This makes the bridge one of the few working movable pontoon bridges still in regular use in the region.
