Hungarian Railway Museum

The Hungarian Railway Museum is a collection housed on a large site with over one hundred trains, carriages, and vehicles from railway history. The display includes both elegant passenger cars and sturdy working locomotives and freight wagons.

The museum was established in 2000 at the site of a former railway depot where Hungarian State Railways maintained and repaired trains. It gathers and preserves vehicles that show how Hungarian rail transport developed from the early 20th century onward.

The museum shows railway vehicles from different periods that reveal how train travel shaped the country's growth and connections. Visitors can observe how comfort and design evolved across decades.

The grounds are easy to walk and offer several vantage points from which to view the trains and vehicles from different angles. It helps to wear comfortable shoes and allow time to explore each section, since the collection is spread across a large area.

The collection includes a rare Soviet luxury car that was later modified to run on railway tracks for transporting high-ranking government officials. This unusual vehicle shows creative adaptation of technology for special purposes.
