Nagykőrös, town in Hungary
Nagykőrös is a town in Hungary with around 500 classical houses displaying various architectural styles from different periods. The center features the town hall with its clock tower, a Reformed church with a 75-meter-high bell tower, and several main squares decorated with monuments and memorials.
The town hall was acquired in the early 1700s and rebuilt with its distinctive two-story facade in 1811, with the clock tower added in 1843. The Reformed church dates back to the 12th century with Romanesque and Gothic elements and gained its present form in 1907 during a major renovation.
Nagykőrös calls itself the City of Events and celebrates throughout the year with festivals dedicated to local food, flowers, and traditions. Streets and parks overflow with blooming plants, and many buildings display flower pots, creating a bright and colorful atmosphere.
The town is easy to explore on foot as the old center with its main squares is compact and well-arranged. Start at the town center to visit the key buildings and museums, and use walking paths and bike trails for exploring the surrounding countryside and forests.
The town is home to Richter Safari Park with more than 200 animals where visitors can drive through the enclosures by car and have direct contact with animals in a petting area. Summer brings special elephant bathing experiences for children, making this an unusual attraction for a Central European location.
