Merlin Szinház

Merlin Szinház is a theatre housed in an art deco building in District V, originally designed as a transformer station near Deák Ferenc Square. The venue seats approximately 200 and stages theatrical performances, musical concerts, and discussion events throughout the year.

The theatre was founded in 1991 as Hungary's first English-language performance venue, representing a significant opening in the country's cultural landscape. This establishment marked the beginning of broader multilingual theatrical programming in Budapest.

The theatre presents productions spanning classical literature and contemporary works, attracting both local and international audiences. Visitors can experience performances in various languages, reflecting its role as a multilingual cultural venue in Budapest.

Since 2004, the venue has organized the bEUgró series, which showcases artists and productions from Eastern Europe and promotes regional cultural exchange. This programming has become an important window for lesser-known voices from across the eastern part of the continent.
