Pauline monastery of Szentlélek, Medieval monastery ruins in Miskolc, Hungary.
The stone walls of the Szentlélek monastery stand at 710 meters elevation in the Bükk Mountains, revealing Gothic architectural elements from medieval construction.
The monastery, first documented in 1240, served as a residence for hermits before becoming an official Pauline establishment following the order's foundation in 1245.
The monastery received support from Hungarian royalty, including Louis I and Matthias Corvinus, who used it as a stopping point during hunting expeditions.
The ruins underwent partial archaeological excavation in 1974, with additional research initiated by the Herman Ottó Museum in Miskolc during 2011.
The monastery experienced two destructive attacks in the 16th century, first by Gáspár Serédy in 1526 and then by Zsigmond Balassa's forces in 1540.
