Odvas-kő Rock Shelter, Cave in Mályinka, Hungary.
Odvas-kő Rock Shelter is a cave located in Csondró valley with a horizontal depth of approximately 10 meters and an entrance roughly 9.5 meters wide, positioned at 430 meters elevation. The natural rock formation creates a spacious entry area that has been adapted for visitor accommodation.
The shelter originally served as a refuge for shepherds before it received its first scholarly mention in 1937 through a study by László Schőnviszky. This early documentation helped establish its significance as a site of historical and cultural interest.
The cave represents one of three residential caves in Hungary where the entrance section has been converted for accommodation purposes within Bükk National Park.
The site is accessible from Mályinka via a marked hiking trail that passes the Ámor spring, making for a straightforward day walk. The interior accommodates approximately 10 to 12 people, working well for small groups or families.
The interior has been fitted with wooden structures including a loft, stoves, and an outdoor terrace with a fire pit for guests. This conversion into living space makes it one of the few residential caves in Hungary equipped for actual overnight stays within Bükk National Park.
