Goat Church, Sopron

Goat Church is a Gothic Catholic church in Sopron featuring typical pointed arches and ribbed vaults throughout its interior spaces. A red marble pulpit serves as the main focal point within the south aisle, anchoring the sacred space with its prominent placement.

Construction began in the late 13th century following a goatherd's discovery of buried treasure that funded the project. This event gave the church both its name and the resources to develop its Gothic design over the following centuries.

The Chapter Hall displays medieval frescoes and stone carvings where animals have human heads, representing the seven deadly sins in Catholic teaching. These works show how symbolic imagery helped convey religious lessons to worshippers in the Middle Ages.
