Storno House, Gothic residence at Fő tér, Hungary
Storno House is a Gothic residence at Fő tér with a distinctive circular enclosed balcony at the corner where two facades meet. Tuscan columns support this feature and lions crown the composition, creating a striking architectural detail.
Originally the residence of the Haberleiter family, the building served as royal lodging in 1482-83. King Matthias used it as a base while conducting military operations against Vienna.
The family transformed it into a center for art restoration and collecting over generations. Visitors can sense how different family members shaped the space around their passion for preserving and acquiring artworks.
The building combines a restaurant in its lower levels with exhibition space above. Plan your visit considering that dining and gallery areas may have different hours and purposes.
The main entrance gate features an ornate baroque knocker shaped like a pelican. This references Ignatius Pelikan, a local armorer from the 17th century whose surname created a playful connection with the animal depicted.
