Abbey church of St James, Romanesque parish church in Lébény, Hungary
The Abbey Church of St James features a twin-tower structure with stone walls, semi-circular arches, and ornate decorative elements throughout its exterior.
Built in 1208 during the Árpád era, the church survived both Mongol raids in the 13th century and Turkish attacks in 1529 and 1683.
The church maintains its function as a religious center while standing as the first documented heritage conservation project in Hungarian history from 1862.
Visitors can access the church by taking public transportation to the Lébény ABC bus stop and walking to Templom Square.
The construction materials include ashlar stones transported from quarries in Fertőrákos, Hungary or St. Margareten, Austria for the building's foundation.
