Water tower in Szeged

The water tower in Szeged is a cylindrical concrete structure that rises prominently into the skyline and houses a large water storage tank. The building combines functional design with artistic elements and offers views that reflect the city's urban layout.

Engineer Szilárd Zielinski designed this structure in 1904 as Hungary's second water tower built with reinforced concrete. The work marked an important advance in urban infrastructure and the application of modern building technology in Central Europe.

The tower displays early modern design with Art Nouveau touches, accompanied by busts of seven architects who shaped Szeged's development. These artistic details give the industrial structure an unusually refined appearance that goes beyond its purely practical purpose.

The building is accessible to visitors during the summer months on specific days, allowing close-up exploration of the structure. It is advisable to wear comfortable shoes and be prepared for stairs to reach the interior areas.

Inside the tower hangs a Foucault pendulum that demonstrates Earth's rotation, merging science with everyday infrastructure. This unusual feature transforms a visit into more than just an architectural exploration.
