Savaria Mithraeum, Roman temple ruins in Szombathely, Hungary.

The Savaria Mithraeum contains stone altars decorated with relief scenes depicting the mythology and rituals of the god Mithras.

Discovered in 2008 during shopping center construction, this underground temple operated until the fourth century when fire caused its collapse.

The temple walls feature geometric patterns and figurative scenes painted with expensive pigments including Egyptian Blue and vermilion.

The archaeological site remains preserved in the basement level of a modern shopping center, allowing visitors to examine ancient Roman architecture.

Stone benches line the walls of the inner sanctuary where worshippers gathered for ceremonies dedicated to the Roman deity Mithras.
