Postal Palace, Budapest, Historic postal office in District XII, Hungary

The Postal Palace rises above Széll Kálmán tér in District XII, with its main entrance at 6 Krisztina körút. Gyula Sándy designed it in eclectic-Art Nouveau style, built 1924–1926 as the Hungarian Royal Post's administrative building. It stands alone with a small courtyard, and a tall chimney recalls the former courtyard coal firing.

Gyula Sándy designed the building, erected in two phases: construction began in 1925 and was completed in 1926 as the administrative headquarters of the Hungarian Royal Post. Hungary was in a financial crisis at the time, so savings were made during construction. Postal bodies moved in immediately, and a telephone exchange operated inside. Burned out during the 1945 siege of Budapest, it was restored by 1947.

The building's name, Postapalota, comes from its original role as the headquarters of the Hungarian Royal Post. Since 2022 its lower levels house the Magyar Pénzmúzeum és Látogatóközpont, the Hungarian Money Museum and Visitor Centre, entered from the Sándy Gyula köz passage opened in 2021 between Krisztina körút and Széll Kálmán tér.

The Postal Palace stands at 6 Krisztina körút, above Széll Kálmán tér in District XII. A level pedestrian passage opened in 2021 links Krisztina körút with the square and is named Sándy Gyula köz after the architect; the Money Museum entrance opens from it. A lookout on top of the corner tower is open to the public.

The building housed Hungary's first revolving passenger lift, a paternoster. Its tall chimney recalls the former courtyard coal firing. Since 2022 the lower floors hold the Money Museum, reached through the Sándy Gyula passage opened in 2021.
